I've been hard at work on creating a new, more functional blog for my site, and tonight I'm making the switch!! I'm excited to have the new blog in place because it provides some very cool services and features the old one didn't. The number on of those being that it's now searchable, and if I want to post several (or a lot) of images from one shoot and only show my initial favorite with a blip about what the images are (aka...an "excerpt), I can do that now! Those two features alone were nearly worth the switch because they mean much less scrolling!
The second great addition I really dig on the new blog is currently being called "featured". This area will feature a gallery of images from a recent shoot or series. It's very visual with thumbnail versions of each image, until you click on it. From there they get large on a lightbox, and you can easily advance to the next shot. The "featured" area will be updated as I accumulate a new set of images I want to publish as a group.
I worked to try and recreate the minimalism of this blog with a similar design and layout, so those of you who have visited this blog should feel right at home.
I've moved all the images and posts over to the new blog, and posted several new contributions over the past couple days! As of now, I will no longer be posting new work on this blog, and will post to my new blog exclusively!
Please update any links, bookmarks, or RSS subscriptions you may have.
Thanks for reading and having a look!
Cheers!

kindred spirits

Here is my humble attempt at the incredible black & whites Jerry Tovo is becoming increasingly famous for. Over the past couple years, he's become my mentor and a very good friend. We recently collaborated on a shoot together, and as photographers do, shot a few test images of each other while setting up our lighting. Of the four or five I snapped, I thought this one lent itself well to trying my hand at the technique he has long since perfected. One catchlight. See, I've been listening!
Here's to kindred spirits and parallel universes.

nikon F5

That's right, it's a film camera! And not just any film camera, the baddest ass 35mm camera to ever capture a frame! I'm so excited to own it, and this beast can be purchased for merely a fraction of it's original price! For those who are interested, click the links for all the reasons the Nikon F5 has been called "The king of Nikon film cameras".

cairo

What's left of Cairo, IL. I've been waiting for the right day to shoot here for two years. I wanted an ominous, stormy sky to accompany the deserted downtown.

isaac

I recently had the pleasure of spending a Saturday at the zoo with this little guy, and face painting was among the highlights of the day! This image was shot outdoors with available light, but I rather like how it nearly looks studio lit. I placed Isaac in the shadow and let the sunlight blow out the sandy pave stones in the background. A little post work and instant white seamless!

Today I found a lens I lost when I moved to the city a couple years ago! It's the notorious Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 D!! This lens has been making the top 10 list for best Nikon lenses ever made since it's release in 1986. It's thought to be one of, if not THE sharpest lens Nikon ever produced, and it's incredibly fast!

holly

My first studio was located on the top floor of the Pierce Arrow building in the Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis. Stark white walls, white concrete floors and an eastern wall consisting of industrial windows about 8 ft x 12 ft. My brother and I spent three days painting the ceiling matte black and the natural light was incredible. I miss that space.

hands

I'm shooting this series for one reason; it fascinates me. I find the images interesting and compelling. I want to depict the hands as though they are stone sculpture, and the stark black and white allows the form and negative space to come together.
